Okay faithful readers of Wellocracy, we’re going for a walk…on the CATWALK that is! That’s right my Tory Burch loving friends, tracking is not only practical, it is now fashionable!
I guess it’s not hard to believe that fashion has caught up with the self-health craze, but is there really such a thing as a fashionable tracker? If you are on this site, then you are interested in tracking and probably already tracking, which means, if you will permit me, that you may also be interested in looking good. And looking good can also translate into being a bit of a fashionista! At least that’s the case for me, I admit! So, here’s a look at my personal experience fusing trackers with fashion and a peek into the growing world of fashionable trackers.
It was Easter and I was in church. As I sat dutifully, head bowed and hands folded in my lap, listening intently to the sermon, I couldn’t help but notice the Fitbit Charge on my left wrist and the pretty little brass and copper cuff bracelet on my right. Fidgeting with both, I pulled off the cuff and placed it over the Charge and eureka! As if from heaven above, I had created my very own fashionable tracker! “This is a much nicer look for my Easter outfit,” I thought.
I immediately started taking a mental inventory of my jewelry box to see what other combinations I could create. Add a bangle here, a stretchy band there; maybe start a new online business selling this wonderful jewelry. And just as I was envisioning myself doing cart wheels on the catwalk with Betsey Johnson, my entrepreneurial musings were interrupted by the conclusion of the sermon. “Amen to that!” I said. This would have to wait until Monday!
A New Era of Stylish Wearables
Monday came and went, and so did my dream of becoming a jewelry designer! But, a quick Google search revealed dozens of headlines like ‘3 DIY Tricks to Glam Up Your Old Fitness Gear,’ and 7 Incredibly Stylish Fitness, Health, and Life Trackers That Look Like Jewelry.’ I was out of business before I had even started!
The good news is that there is a huge interest and market for fashionable trackers. Technology companies are collaborating with fashion designers, paying close attention to what the consumer wants; recognizing the inherent challenge to create a fashionable tracker without compromising functionality and affordability. The first fashionable trackers were introduced at upwards of $200, with the jewelry priced at the same or more which has so far made these high-style trackers cost prohibitive. But the selection of appealing and more affordable trackers continues to increase.
How about the LEAF, by Bellabeat? With two different styles, the LEAF will cost you between $119 and $250. Not bad for a device that can be worn as a brooch, necklace or bracelet!
Consider the Mira bracelet at $169. It’s attractive and functional, and is available in either brushed gold or midnight purple. The Mira includes the bracelet, tracker, charger and free app – and it comes in different sizes.
the Wellograph Watch ($359);
These watches offer a variety of price points and choices for the consumer, all with a big emphasis on fashion and wearability.
These are just a few fashionable trackers that are available on the market now; many are new and improved versions of first releases. I encourage you to see for yourself that, yes, fashion and health trackers were meant to go together!
